Returning to work after a leave of absence for personal reasons

  • Members of staff returning to work after family leave should see the occupational health physician before returning to work
  • Plans and decisions should be made regarding the nature of the new position/options available
  • Should the member of staff prefer a position in a different division or department, this should be requested as early as possible

Leave of absence during a child's sickness

  • Members of staff with statutory health insurance cover are entitled to up to 10 days of paid leave (this is reimbursed by the health insurance provider)
  • Members of staff with private health insurance are entitled to up to 4 days of paid leave, provided the child is under 12 years of age

Maternity Protection Act (Mutterschutzgesetz)

  • Protections provided under the Maternity Protection Act (MuSchG) continue to apply after birth, and include the following: Under section 7 (§ 7 MuSchG) of the Act, mothers returning to work are entitled to breastfeeding breaks at work.
